Information from today's BoroBlast: 1. THANK YOU EVERYONE for your hard work during Remote Learning. 2. REMINDER - learners who have not been participating and/or have not been turning assignments in will be marked absent and will not receive credit for missing assignments.  3. Please turn in all assignments for Remote Learning by 8:00 pm on 12/23. This will assist us with record keeping. 4. The building will close for winter break at 2:00 pm on Wed, 12/23 and will remain closed through Mon, 1/4. 5. If you have items that need to be picked up at school, please make arrangements to get them today (12/22) before 4:00 pm or between 8:00 am and 2:00 pm on 12/23. 6. Contact staff over winter break - emails to staff will be returned on 1/4. Please check your email for a BoroBlast, following up Dr. Kline's message today (Friday, December 11, 2020). Summitview will transition to Remote Learning for three days - Mon, 12/14, Tues, 12/15, and Wed, 12/16. The building will reopen for in-person learning on Thursday, 12/17.

Sending a "thank you" to the Summitview family for your generosity during our penny collection during Homelessness Awareness week. Summitview raised $211.53 which was donated to the New Hope Shelter and Waynesboro Human Services.

Mrs. Yost's learners knew I was coming to visit them today during math class. On his own, a learner named Jayce wrote me a story. (I thought this story was a class assignment). I told him I would come back and read the story at lunchtime. When I came back there was a stack of stories to read from several learners. I also learned these stories were not a class assignment, they were just for me! To quote Dr. Seuss, my heart grew three sizes that day! To Mrs. Yost's learners, thank you!!! Love, Dr. McCallum

Shout out to our amazing art teacher, Mrs. DeStefao. She is using her Philo problem-solving skills to come up with awesome projects for our learners to complete in their homerooms and not the art room.

School physicals on January 7, 2021: The Pennsylvania School Health Act requires a physical examination for each kindergarten, sixth and eleventh grade student. If your learner needs a physical and you wish to have the exam completed by the school physician, please complete the consent form sent home and your learner. Third graders continued their work as young geologists earlier this week when they used Starbursts to simulate the creation of metamorphic rocks!

I walked by Mrs. Yost's room Monday morning and hear her tell the class, "during science today we are going to pretend to be geologists!" The class cheered! Here they are learning about minerals on Monday.

Info from tonight's BoroBlast: *PTO fundraisers is offering several passive fundraisers in preparation for holiday gift giving. Several order forms were sent home for those who are interested. All order forms, along with payment (exact cash or checks payable to "Summitview PTO") are due Tuesday, November 24, 2020. Please place the order forms and payment in an envelope labeled "PTO Holiday Fundraiser." *Thursday, November 12 is Domino's Pizza night. Order forms were sent home earlier this week. You can also download and print an order form here - https://5il.co/mz2b *The WASD school counseling department is organizing a penny/change collection for Homelessness Awareness week. Learners can bring change in to school Monday, November 16 through Friday, November 20. There will be a collection car near the bell. *Reminders about the November Calendar: --Student Council sports day is Friday, November 20. --Wednesday, November 25 is a remote learning day. --School will be closed for Thanksgiving break Thursday, November 26 through Tuesday, December 1. School will re-open Wednesday, December 3.

One of my favorite Summitview events is Mrs. Slick's Veteran's Day program. We are all disappointed that we couldn't have that event this year. A few announcements and reminders as we enter Week 11! *Please have your child wear PATRIOTIC COLORS tomorrow, Tuesday, 11/10, in honor of Veteran's Day this Friday. Our Summitview family includes many veterans and active-duty service members. We are so thankful for your service! *This Friday, November 13, will be our second Student Council spirit day this month. It is Sports Day! *Reminders for those who drop their child off via car in the morning: Please pull all the way up, past the flag pole to the tree by the end of the building, when dropping off your child. Doing so allows several cars to unload at the same time. Adults should remain in their cars in order to keep traffic moving. If your child needs assistance with his/her car seat or seat belt, please park in the side parking lot and walk your child to the building. *There is no school for learners on Wednesday, November 11 in remembrance of Veteran's Day. *Wednesday, November 25 is a Remote Learning Day. Learners will have 1/2 day of work to complete in their Google Classrooms. *There will be no school for learners Thursday, November 26 through Tuesday, December 1 for Thanksgiving Break.
