
Go Girls Go informational meeting was held this afternoon. Applications and $10 payment can be accepted starting Friday, February 21. Financial assistance is available for those in need. Please note that we don't have as many mentors this year so space is limited. Applications will be accepted in the order in which they are received in the SV office.

1. Please return elementary attendance zone assignment letters for next school year, even if your child is remaining at Summitview. These were mailed home to all learners currently enrolled in kindergarten through fourth grade. Please contact Mrs. Ebersole if you have questions.
2. Friday, 2/21 will be our first be kind t-shirt spirit day. We encourage all learners who purchased a shirt to wear them on Friday. Don’t forget to share pictures of your child completing daily kindness challenges using the svsharks@wasdpa.org email address. Some photos will be selected to be featured on Summitview social media pages and learners will win a small prize!
3. PTO’s second annual “Roaring 20s” gala will be Saturday, February 29 beginning at 6:30 pm at the Counting House, formerly BBT bank, on the square. Additional information about the event, including ticket ordering, can be found on the Summitview PTO Facebook page. This adults only, BYOB event is a great way to have an evening out and get to know other families from our school. Buffet-style dinner from Mountain Gate in Thurmont, a DJ from Bulldog Entertainment
4. Please mark your calendars for our annual academic night on Thursday, March 19. We’ll have food available for purchase from Fireside Pizza, the Scholastic Book Fair, a family fitness activity, and more!

Representatives of the local chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society visiting Summitview on Monday. Learners were taught about the three types of blood cells (red, white, and platelets) and how they work together to keep us healthy. Learners are encouraged to collect change to donate to LLS. Our last collection date towards our goal of $500 for LLS is Friday, February 14.

1. Thursday 2/6 is the last day to purchase yoyos features in the NED Show Assembly.
2. SV is joining the fight against blood cancers by participating in Pennies for Patients through the regional chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Children are encouraged to complete small chores for family and friends in exchange for donations to LLS. Change is encouraged but cash and checks made payable to the Leukemia and Lymphoma society will also be accepted. Our first collection date will be 2/7 and the final collection date will be 2/14.

4. Finally, don’t forget to share pictures of your child completing daily kindness challenges using the svsharks@wasdpa.org email address. We can take additional shirt orders for a later delivery date through Wednesday, February 12 so long as we have at least 12 orders. Cost is $8 and extra order forms are available in the office.

Help inspire the next generation of empowered and healthy young women! SV will again participate in Go Girls Go, a program for girls in 4th-6th grades that is designed to improve the health and well-being for girls at one of the most vulnerable times of their lives. The program includes activities and group work that help the girls develop leadership and communication skills, improve self-esteem, build friendships, and increase their physical activity with the ultimate goal of running a 5k. This year's 5k will be Saturday, May 16 and is an opportunity for the girls, coaches, and mentors to celebrate girls’ fitness and personal growth developed throughout the program. At this time we are in need of mentors to commit to volunteering once or twice per week after school (3:30-5:00 pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays) at Summitview. Clearances are required (Go Girls Go will help). Summitview's session Our next session is March 5 - May 19th and our spring 2020 Go Girls Go! 5k is Saturday, May 16th at 9am!

The Franklin Science Council, the group that organizes the annual county science fair, is hosting a science night on Tuesday, February 4 from 7-8:15 pm at WAMS. This event is open to the public and no preregistration is not required.

Learners in Mrs. Yost's class complete a morning math message each day. Recently her learners found 8 different ways to solve the problem!


Under the leadership of our district's Pre-K Coordinator, Mrs. Nemzek, learners in Mrs. Garofalo's and Mrs. Cook's kindergarten classes have been participating in a social and emotional program based on the TV show Mr. Rogers. This program is available to us through St. Vincent College's Fred Rogers Center for Early Learning. Recently, Mrs. Cook's learners talked about feelings... what they are, feeling words and appropriate ways to react to their feelings. Today’s lesson was all about “our shine” and how we can grow our own shine as well as help others grow their’s.
