Advisor/teacher Wesley Newman, along with Career Coordinator Brian Fisher, took Waynesboro Investment Club (18 students) to New York City to hear from executives from Mastercard at their Manhattan office building. They toured several floors, participated in a few simulations, and had the opportunity to speak with and ask questions to multiple employees from their Product Innovation team and other departments. They also took the Staten Island Ferry, visited Wall Street, Times Square, Rockefeller Center, Central Park, and some other historic locations.

Waynesboro FBLA chapter 5932 was recently honored with the Hollis and Kitty Guy Gold Seal Chapter Award of Merit. This is one of the highest honors of FBLA. It is an honor of a chapter that is recognized as the top 15% of chapters nationwide that exhibit, exceptional, leadership program participation. This year Waynesboro chapter members did over 800 hours of community service. Ella Snelbaker completed 168 hours of community service, Maddy Ruefle added 129 hours, and Ella Swart completed 113 hours. Congratulations team!

FBLA

Students from Waynesboro Area Senior High School visited Johnson Controls on Friday, May 22, where they received an engaging and informative introduction to welding processes. The session also covered real-world welding applications. The students were provided with an overview of engineering highlighted by an interactive game. The group was given a demonstration showing how ice can be used to boil water and the science behind it.

For the 2nd year in a row, our Quiz Bowl team, led by our outstanding captain, Kirin Clay, won the National Thinking Cap Quiz Bowl. This contest combines knowledge and speed as teams answer 100 questions on current events, geography, sports, music, all academic disciplines and so much more. The faster they answer, the more points they score. Pictured are Jayden Guo, Morgan Jones, Caiden Shacreaw, Nevaeh Debrick and Kirin Clay. National Thinking Cap Quiz Bowl Champions
Top-performing Waynesboro FBLA learners recently represented us well at States in Hershey, PA, where over 5,000 FBLA students attended and competed in a variety of business-related events. Senior, Sayvian Hollimon (pictured left, competed in Future Business Educator) and Sophomore, Hopper Baumgardner (pictured right, competed in Accounting) each brought home 11th place out of over 100 students who qualified for states at the most recent Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) held in Hershey, PA. Congrats to both of these fine young men for their efforts and initiative!

WASHS freshman Zach McCallum is set to be honored at Penn College on May 14th as the 3rd place state, and the 2nd place regional winner in Pennsylvania for this year's fall Stock Market Game. SMG is an online, educational simulation where students or teams manage a virtual $100,000 portfolio, by investing in stocks, bonds, and mutual funds. Operated by the SIFMA Foundation, it teaches financial literacy and economics, and introduces students to the world of investing and personal finance, preparing nearly 20 million students for financially independent futures. Waynesboro Are School District been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education (Award) from The NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education. For 27 years, the BCME designation has been awarded to districts and individual schools that demonstrate outstanding access to music education for all students! To qualify for the BCME designation, WASD answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, and support for the music program and community music-making programs.
