March 25, 2020

Dear Parents, Families, and the Community:

As you know, our schools closed March 16, 2020 due to the novel coronavirus 2019.  This has been a serious health concern for our nation, and something we have not had to face in our lifetimes.

For the first two weeks, our teachers and support staff continued to work.  Teachers were doing professional development to help us prepare for the future, some of our teachers and support staff completed state required trainings, custodial staff cleaned our schools and other buildings, and our food service are providing lunches and breakfasts for drive-by pick-ups for children.  Building principals have been working tirelessly to prepare trainings for our staff, and get ready for our next steps.

In addition, it is important to thank our community.  Several organizations in our community have offered to help WASD in whatever capacity they can.  We sincerely appreciate those offers, and with great thanks.

Beginning on March 30th, WASD will provide Enrichment activities to all learners and families who wish to participate. This is part of our Continuity of Education plan. There will be online activities for the secondary and elementary levels.  For those without access, hardcopy options will be available. Principals will be working with teachers to prepare those materials, and will communicate with learners and families for the pick-up of the enrichment materials.

After receiving direction from the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) WASD will re-open on

Tuesday, April 14, 2020 unless directed otherwise by Governor Wolf or the Department of Education.  Students and staff will start the same day.

It has been a difficult and sad time for our nation and community, but we will prevail.  WASD will become better and stronger, and will learn from this challenging event by providing an even better educational opportunity for each child.

As we receive more information from the state and/or the department of education, we will continue to keep you informed.  School districts throughout Franklin, Adams and York Counties have kept in contact daily.  We are all trying to move forward in similar fashion with communication and share strategies.  Nevertheless, we are still very different and may see variations.  We continue to ask for your patience and understanding as we sail these uncharted waters.  Thank you for being part of WASD.  We truly want to become our community’s First Choice educational option.

Please stay healthy, safe and Boro Strong.  Also, please refer to the important dates and messages below.

Thank you.
